I am a mead maker, a hobby I came by while playing in the Society for Creative Anachronism.  Here I am known as Lady Sylvia du Vey in the Shire of Endewearde, East Kingdom.  I am happily married to Lord Ané du Vey (known as “Vey”).  We have two girls who are currently 12 and 15 years old.  This picture was taken in front of Fort Knox in Prospect, Maine at an SCA event about 11 years ago.

I have been making mead for about 17 years, with time off here and there for having kids and procrastinating on my projects.  I’m not sure why I even started making mead, since the first ones I tasted were less than pleasant.  But I did start and have made many mistakes, learning much along the way.    This information was gathered mostly by trial and error, but some by meeting people who could give me constructive feedback and tips.

Now I am on a new mission to make helpful information accessible to as many people who find this site.  I don’t expect it to ever evolve into something very “sciency” and technical, but am focusing on information I have gathered along the way that I would have found helpful earlier in my learning.  This site is geared toward helping beginners start and intermediate brewers move forward a bit more.  Hopefully you will find it as such.
